10-11/10/2022 - Last Consortium Meeting and Training Exercise in Athens, Greece

On the 10-11 of October, the AIDERS partners had their last consortium meeting in Athens that was hosted by KEMEA. On the first day, the partners met at KEMEA premises in Athens, where they discussed the project’s progress focusing on the platform final testing and evaluation. On the second day, a demonstration session was carried out at Markopoulo, Attica, Greece (ex Olympic Shooting Center) for showcasing the AIDERS capabilities in real-life scenarios.

 

7-9/10/2022 - Field Trial with Hellenic Rescue Team in Volos, Nea Anchialos

On the 7-9 of October, the KIOS CoE participated on field exercises with Hellenic Rescue Team and demonstrated the capabilities of the AIDERS platform. The exercises were held on marine rescue at the 111 Combat Wing, in Anchialos of Volos. The aim of the training was to learn and optimise SAR techniques that contribute to a successful maritime Search and Rescue operation. The exercises involved helicopters of the Air Force, rescue boats of the HRT and UAVs of Kios CoE. More than 100 volunteers participated from several HRT’s branches.

 

 

5-6/07/2022 - Consortium Meeting and Training Exercise in Rome, Italy

On the 5-6 of April, the AIDERS partners had a consortium meeting in Rome that was hosted by CNVVF. On the first day, the partners met at Istituto Superiore Antincendi (National Education Institute) in Rome where they discussed the project’s progress focusing on the platform testing and evaluation. On the second day, a field exercise was carried out at Scuola di formazione operativa (Operational training center) in Montelibretti for training the partners on the latest version of the platform and to receive feedback for updates.

 

 

28-29/06/2022 - AIDERS on the 7th EU Civil Protection Forum 2022

On the 28-29 of June, KIOS CoE participated in the 7th EU Civil Protection Forum 2022 in Brussels showcasing the AI tools developed in the AIDERS project. The Forum welcomes actors involved in the implementation and shaping of the European Civil Protection Policy. This includes representatives from the civil protection and disaster management communities such as governments, local, national and regional civil protection authorities, first responders, EU institutions, the scientific community and the private sector as well as other relevant stakeholders wishing to provide their input to this discussion.

 

 

11/04/2021- Medium Scale exercise at Vretsia, Cyprus

On the 11th of April, the Cyprus Civil Defence and KIOS CoE undertook a medium scale exercise, under the ARTION EU Programme. The exercise scenario concerned a village evacuation due to a natural disaster that caused various damages and injuries. During the exercise, the DG ECHO AIDERS project acted as a crucial component, as two UAVs constructed an instant map of the area, helping the First Responders acquire situational awareness for the region of interest. In addition, a UAV was commanded via the AIDERS platform to monitor specific locations.

 

 

21/02/2021- Small Scale exercise at Achna, Cyprus

On the 21st of February, the Cyprus Civil Defence and KIOS CoE undertook a small scale exercise that was executed in the framework of the ARTION project for the purpose of collecting realistic data from disaster management operations. The field exercise was organized along the shore of an artificial lake in Cyprus simulating a search and rescue operation of missing persons after a flood. During the exercise, the DG ECHO AIDERS project aided in the real time situational awareness of the affected area, as a UAV constructed an instant map of the shore, helping the First Responders in assessing the situation for the region of interest. In addition, a UAV was commanded via the AIDERS platform to monitor specific locations.

 

 

27/11/2020- Introducing AIDERS at Europian Researcher's Night, Cyprus

On The 27th of November, KIOS CoE introduced the DG ECHO AIDERS platform to the visitors of the European Researcher’s Night. The Researcher’s Night is a Europe-wide public event that brings researchers closer to the general public. The Night showcases the diversity of science and its impact on citizens’ daily lives, stimulating interest in research careers - particularly among young people. This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was virtual with AIDERS having its own booth with and introductory video and live chat with KIOS researchers. The AIDERS booth had a total of 223 visits. You can watch the video at the DG ECHO AIDERS YouTube Channel.

29/10/2020- Small Scale exercise at Galata, Cyprus

On the 29th of October 2020, the Cyprus Civil Defense and KIOS CoE undertook a small scale exercise to demonstrate and test the outcomes of the DG ECHO AIDERS project during the "AGIS" exercise for the evacuation of a village after a natural disaster. During the exercise multiple UAVs were used to construct an instant map of the area and to monitor safe evacuation locations. 16/10/2020- Small Scale exercise at Fikardou, Cyprus

On the 16th of October, the Cyprus Civil Defense and KIOS CoE undertook a small scale exercise to demonstrate and test the outcomes of the DG ECHO AIDERS project. During the exercise they used two UAVs to construct an instant map of the area. In addition, a UAV was commanded via the AIDERS platform to monitor specific locations. 16/07/2020- Dissemination by REA

The Research Executive Agency (REA) selected the 15 seconds video of Maria, a researcher working for the DG ECHO AIDERS project at KIOS CoE to be promoted on their social media. This was part of the video challenge launched by REA in June 2020, to get researchers talking about their EU-funded research in a catchy and fun format. 15-17/07/2020- Clustering activity at Greece

KEMEA, in the framework of a National funded project XENIOS (NSRF 2014-2020), organized a meeting with the Management Body of the National Park of Samaria (both partners of XENIOS), disseminating AIDERS project, presenting the benefits and capabilities of RPAS, and how they can be utilized in order to enhance the preparedness and response during an emergency situation, such as a fire. In this context a field demo took place presenting the capacities of an RPAS and providing real time experience.

22/06/2020- Participation in panel as AI experts
Partners of the project participated as AI experts in panel “Turbo boost your Startup with AI” hosted online by the European University of Cyprus. The event attracted more than 100 individuals from Cyprus and Israel, and hosted speakers from the two countries with experience in applying AI in developing successful products. Maria from KIOS CoE talked about using of AI for effective emergency response, the goals and outcomes of the DG ECHO AIDERS project.
11/05/2020- Consortium Meeting @ Teams
The Aiders Consortium Meeting took place online, via Teams, on the 11th of May and it was attended by all AIDERS partners. During the meeting, the partners discuss on the impact of Covid-19 on the implementation of the project. In addition, they discussed the next milestones and deliverables and agreed on task items for the next steps.
30-31/01/2020- Kickoff Meeting @ University of Cyprus 
The AIDERS Kickoff Meeting took place on the 30th of January at KIOS CoE, University of Cyprus and was attended by all AIDERS partners. During the meting the projct Objectives and tasks have been presented, the partners roles and planned actions for the project have been discussed and refined. On the 31st of January, AIDERS partners visited the Cyprus Civil Defence  UAV testing area and premisses.  The partners were presented with the UAVS and the software the Cyprus Civil Defencce currently operates, and they were introduced to the activities undertaken by Civil Defence in Cyprus.
