The general objective of this project is to generate new knowledge at an international level in decentralize and intelligent control, collaborative signal processing, distributed robotics and environmental monitoring (diffusion processes). This project will develop and analyze new algorithms for efficient and fault-tolerant detection, localization and tracking of one or multiple event sources in the context of wireless sensor networks. Emphasis will be given to the collaboration between the autonomous sensors such that the best possible results will be achieved mainly using decentralized approaches. This project will develop a number of building blocks that can be used in designing and developing innovative ICT Applications that can effectively monitor and protect the environmental resources as well as improve citizen's quality of life. The results of this project can be used for real-time assessment and control of air and water quality over the whole island of Cyprus. Furthermore, the results can be exploited towards building a wireless sensor network that protects the environment and the citizens against various forms of pollutants. In addition, the results can facilitate the implementation of the EU environmental directives.
