Nikolas Flourentzou received the Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 2002, the joint Masters of Science degree in Power Electronics and Drives from the University of Birmingham and the University of Nottingham, UK, in 2003, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Power Systems from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2010. He is currently a researcher fellow at KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence of the University of Cyprus. He has received the first prize of ElectricaAwards 2010 international innovation contest for the future of electricity networks by AREVA T&D (now known as ALSTOM). He has received the best paper award on the 8th international conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (PEDS'09). His fields of interests are HVDC systems, voltage-source converter topologies, electrical power transmission systems, selective-harmonic elimination PWM, and integration of renewable energy systems.
