The aim of the project is to design and develop an online learning-based fault diagnosis engine with adaptation capabilities, that monitors and analyses in real time data arriving from critical infrastructure systems (CIS), to accurately detect a potential fault and effectively isolate and identify its exact location. Modern society relies heavily on the availability and smooth operation of CIS, such as electrical power systems, water distribution systems and telecommunication networks. In such large-scale, complex engineering systems when a failure occurs due to faults, it can have severe societal, health and economic consequences. The sequential arrival of data in CIS calls for a fault diagnosis engine with adaptive behaviour to achieve and maintain optimal performance. However, the vast majority of existing work falls short on this requirement. This project will incorporate online learning capabilities to achieve adaptability and will also address class imbalance, a major challenge for learning systems, arising from the fact that faults are low probability events.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The University of Cyprus (UCY)<\/strong> is the largest public university in Cyprus with more than 7500 students. The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (KIOS CoE)<\/strong> is the largest research centre at the UCY in the area of monitoring, control and security of critical infrastructures. It was established in 2008 as a research unit at UCY and has been upgraded to a European Research Center of Excellence through the EU\u2019s strategic Horizon 2020 program for \u201cSpreading Excellence and Widening Participation \u2013 Teaming\u201d in collaboration with Imperial College London. The Center collaborates with an extended network of national and international academics, as well as, industrial and governmental organisations via its Innovation Hub to assure maximal research impact. It has participated in more than 70 national and international projects such as the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant on \u201cFault-Adaptive Monitoring and Control of Complex Distributed Dynamical Systems\u201d and the COST Action IntelliCIS which has more than 30 partners.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>
