Project coordinator

Dr. Elias Kyriakides is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Associate Director for Research of the KIOS Research Center for Intelligent Systems and Networks, at the University of Cyprus. Dr. Kyriakides’ research expertise is in the area of synchronized measurements in power systems; power system operations (economic dispatch, load forecasting); power quality; estimation of synchronous generator parameters; stability and operation of renewable energy sources connected to the power grid; power engineering education. He is also the Action Chair of the ESF-COST Action IC0806 “Intelligent Monitoring, Control, and Security of Critical Infrastructure Systems” (IntelliCIS) (2009-2013).

Markos Asprou is a Ph.D. candidate at the ECE Dept. of UCY after graduating with his B.Sc. from Univ. of Cyprus in 2009. He also works as a researcher in the KIOS Research Center.

Demetrios G. Eliades Dipl. in Electrical Engineering (2004), Aristotle Univ. of Thessaloniki, MSc in Artificial Intelligence (2005), Univ. of Edinburgh and PhD in Electrical Engineering (2011), Univ. of Cyprus. Research fellow at KIOS Research Center for Intelligent Systems and Networks.

Yiannakis Ioannou BEng in Electrical and Electronics Eng. from Brunel Univ. and MSc in Electrical Energy Systems from the Univ. of Manchester. Working at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus since 1994. PhD candidate in the Dept. of Electrical and Comp. Eng. at UCY.

Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti. he received the M. Eng. (honors) in EE in 2000 from Jadavpur Univ., India and the Ph.D. degree in EE from Memorial Univ. of Newfoundland, Canada, in 2006.

Professor Vladimir Terzija is the EPSRC Chair Professor in Power System Engineering at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The Univ. of Manchester, where he has been since 2006. His main research interests are power system monitoring, control, and protection, as well as switchgears, and DSP applications in power systems. Since 2008, he is a convener of the CIGRE Working Group “Wide Area Protection and Control Technologies”.

Andreas G. Petoussis is a Consultant Electrical Engineer with the TSO of Cyprus. He received the PhD degree in Electrical Eng. at the Univ. of Warwick in 2009. His research interests include electricity markets, dynamic modeling of isolated power systems, and grid-connected RES.

Stavros M. Stavrinos received his B.Sc. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from Salford University, UK and his M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications and Information Systems from Essex University, UK. Since 2004 he has been working with the TSO in the System Operation section.

Irene Charalambous is an Electrical Engineer at the Transmission System Operator (since 2005). She received a M.Sc. in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Manchester in 2003.

Professor Gerald T. Heydt holds the position of Regents’ Professor of Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University. He is the site director of the PSERC at ASU (a $3.5 million center funded by industry, the US National Science Foundation, and the US Department of Energy). He is also the site director of a 40 M$ award known as the FREEDM Engineering Research Center. In 1997, he was elected to the United States National Academy of Engineering – the highest level of recognition in the US for an engineer. Dr. Heydt has been named the “father of electric power quality.” He is the recipient of the IEEE PES “Power Engineering Educator of the Year” Award (1995) and the recipient of the 2010 IEEE Field Award.

Mihaela M. Albu graduated from “Politehnica” Univ. of Bucharest and holds the Ph.D. degree (1998) from the same university. She is a Senior Member of the IEEE, and since 2010 Vice President of the Instrumentation and Measurement Society. Her research interests include instrumentation for power grids, power quality, and signal processing applications to power engineering with the main research direction in synchronized measurements.
