Welcome!

I am a Research Assistant Professor at the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence of the University of Cyprus since 2019. I received a Diploma (2004) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, an MSc (2005) in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and a PhD (2011) in Electrical Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Cyprus. I have been a member of KIOS since 2008 as a PhD student, and since 2011 as a Research Associate.

My main area of research is on Smart Water Networks modelling, monitoring and security, aiming to reduce water losses, safeguard water quality and respond to contamination events, and increase cyber-physical security. I have worked with various research challenges including state estimation, sensor placement, real-time event diagnosis and active detection methods.

I am also leading various open-source research tools (such as the EPANET-MATLAB Toolkit), and the design of benchmarks. I co-organized the international competition “Battle of the Leakage Detection and Isolation Methods” (BattLeDIM) in 2020.

In addition to water systems, I have worked on different application domains, including Intelligent Systems, Smart Buildings, Power Systems, Real-time robotics systems and Machine Learning for Archaeometry.

I have coordinated national and European projects, such as CyRIF WaterAnalytics and CyRIF Domognostics+. I am the Technical Coordinator in various European projects, such as Interreg Greece-Cyprus SmartWater2020, and H2020 PathoCERT, as well as in one SME Instrument and two ERC PoC projects. I am also actively involved in the ERC SyG Water-Futures as part of the team of Prof. Marios Polycarpou. Furthermore, I coordinated industrial projects within the KIOS Innovation Hub, such as the OCEANOS platform for the Water Board of Limassol.

During the first wave of COVID-19, I was the technical coordinator for developing the national information management platform for handling COVID-19 cases.

I am a member of IEEE and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, ETEK, representing KIOS in Water Europe, a technology platform.
