Stelios Vrachimis (Ph.D.) is a Senior Research Associate at the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus since January 2025, having previously served as a Research Associate from 2020 to 2025. He holds a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cyprus and an M.Sc. in Control Systems (Distinction) from Imperial College London.
His research focuses on smart water systems, including real-time state estimation, water quality modeling, and fault diagnosis in water distribution networks. His broader expertise extends to optimization, fault-adaptive control, and cybersecurity for critical infrastructure systems. He is actively involved in the ERC Synergy Grant Water-Futures and serves as a work package leader in the Horizon Europe-funded “IntoDBP” project. He is also the technical coordinator for KIOS Innovation Hub projects, leading the development of digital twins for water utilities in Cyprus. Throughout his tenure as a Research Associate, Stelios played a pivotal role in multiple high-impact projects, including DigiWater and WaterAnalytics. Additionally, he is a key contributor to KIOS’s research infrastructure, supervising technical advancements and supporting researchers. His achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Water Europe Digital Innovation Award (2024) and the KIOS Open Science Award (2024). He is a member of IEEE, ETEK, and Cyprus Young Water Professionals, promoting research collaboration and innovation in the water sector.
