The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (KIOS CoE) at the University of Cyprus announces three (3) positions for full-time developers having experience in one or a combination of the below areas

  • Front-end Development
  • Back-end Development
  • Mobile Development
  • Embedded Software Development
  • Database Administration

to support the Research, Development and Innovation activities of KIOS CoE. The Center is looking for applicants at both entry-level with high academic qualifications, as well as senior-level with higher professional experience. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work on developing novel ICT solutions and design new platforms and systems for the KIOS CoE research and innovation projects. As part of their duties, developers will also contribute to the preparation of technical reports and manuals, as well as liaising with end-users for technical demonstration purposes. In addition to development, KIOS CoE developers will have the opportunity to receive further training on technical and management skills.

The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence is the largest research center at the University of Cyprus and has recently been upgraded to a European Research Center of Excellence through the KIOS CoE Teaming project, with significant funding in excess of 40 million euros over the next 15 years. Currently, the Center employs about 90 researchers, who are supported by externally funded research projects while the vision of KIOS is that it will grow to 150-200 researchers by 2022. KIOS CoE provides an inspiring environment for carrying out top-level research in the area of Information and Communication Technologies with emphasis on the Monitoring, Control and Security of Critical Infrastructures including power and energy systems, water networks, transportation networks, telecommunication networks and emergency management and response systems. The Center instigates interdisciplinary interaction and promotes collaboration between industry, academia and research organizations in high-tech areas of global importance.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

The position is on a contract basis. The contract duration will be for one year with a probation period of 6-months. Afterwards, a 2-year contract can be offered, which could be renewed, based on performance. The monthly gross salary depends on the candidate’s qualifications and expertise and will be within the range €1500- €2500 (depending on experience). The 13th salary bonus is incorporated in the monthly salary. The position does not include medical insurance coverage, however the University of Cyprus provides the opportunity, if the employee desires so, to become a member at the Governmental Medical Plan (annual cost per person €550) or join the Private Medical Scheme (cost of 5.5% of gross salary). Maternity leave will be granted based on Maternity Protection Laws 1997 to 2011.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful applicants will:

  • create front-end and/or back-end solutions
  • mobile applications and/or web-applications
  • develop and manage databases
  • create embedded software for embedded systems
  • prepare technical reports and manuals
  • liaise with end-users for technical demonstration purposes

The KIOS CoE stack is mainly based on open technologies, which includes (but is not limited to): JavaScript Frameworks, Python, Java, RESTful API, Django, Docker, Linux, Relational/NoSQL Databases, HTML5/CSS3, Android app and IoT environment, embedded system coding in C and C++.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BSc and/or MSc in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering.
  • Proven industrial experience in relevant software developer position will be considered an advantage
