Nikolas Panayiotou is a PhD student at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Cyprus, carrying out his research at the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, under the supervision of Prof. Theocharis Theocharides. His research centers on robust perception for robotic systems, combining computer vision and 3D point cloud analysis to enable reliable and real-time understanding of complex environments on embedded platforms. He is particularly interested in LiDAR-based sensing and 3D semantic segmentation, and how these techniques can be deployed efficiently on resource-constrained edge hardware. He holds a BSc in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Cyprus, and previously worked as a Student Intern at KIOS on the GuardAI project.
