Successful Completion of the 2026 KIOS Graduate Training School on Artificial Intelligence

The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (KIOS CoE) successfully organized the 2026 KIOS Graduate Training School on Artificial Intelligence, held from 3 to 5 March 2026 at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia.

The three-day Training School was organized in the framework of the European MSCA Doctoral Network LEMUR project and aimed to provide advanced, interdisciplinary training in cutting-edge areas of Artificial Intelligence. The programme was held in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and online participation, and brought together more than 100 participants, including doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and young professionals from Cyprus and abroad, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration in an interdisciplinary environment.

Participants had the opportunity to attend high-level lectures delivered by internationally renowned experts, covering topics such as machine learning, representation learning, and emerging AI technologies.
Professor Gabriella Pasi (University of Milano-Bicocca) delivered a lecture on “Context and Knowledge Awareness in Large Language Models”.
Professor Axel-Cyrille Ngonga Ngomo (Paderborn University) presented “Recent Advances in Concept Learning”.
Professor Constantine Dovrolis (Georgia Institute of Technology and the Cyprus Institute) discussed “Recent Mathematical Results about Deep Neural Networks”.
Professor Sergios Theodoridis (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) gave a lecture on “Self-Supervised Learning: A Tour to the Basics”.
Professor Theocharis Theocharides (University of Cyprus and KIOS CoE) presented “Edge Intelligence – Time for the Edge to Grow Up!”.
Dr. Kleanthis Malialis (KIOS CoE) delivered a lecture on “Learning from Nonstationary Data Streams”.

In addition to the technical sessions, the programme included complementary training on innovation and research proposal preparation, equipping participants with valuable skills for their academic and professional careers.

Dr. Anastasia Constantinou, Head of the Innovation Management Sector at the Research and Innovation Support Service of the University of Cyprus, presented “Intellectual Property Rights & Knowledge Transfer”.
Dr. Eugene Sweeney, EU, IP and Innovation Expert at KIOS CoE, delivered a lecture on “Research Proposal Preparation”.

Through these sessions, participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical insights, enhancing their skills and broadening their understanding of the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

The KIOS Graduate Training School is part of KIOS CoE’s broader mission to provide high-quality training programmes that enrich professional competencies while fostering personal development.
