Savvas Papaioannou

Savvas Papaioannou is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus. He earned his DPhil (PhD) degree in Computer Science from the University of Oxford, UK, in 2017, where he was a member of Kellogg College. Prior to that, he studied Electrical Engineering at Yale University, USA, obtaining his MSc degree in 2013. He received his 5-year diploma (BSc degree) in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Crete, Greece, in 2011. Since 2017, he has been a Post-Doctoral researcher at the KIOS CoE. His research interests primarily lie in the domains of Autonomous Systems and Artificial Intelligence. Specifically, his work focuses on designing and integrating novel estimation, decision-making, and control techniques. This integration aims to design and develop advanced autonomous systems and intelligent machines that address complex real-world problems and challenges. Dr. Papaioannou’s research has been applied and demonstrated in a variety of real-world scenarios, including monitoring power consumption in large buildings and detecting anomalies, tracking multiple individuals in construction sites and dynamically evolving environments, and coordinating the operation of multiple robots such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for autonomous cooperative tasks, including building inspections and search-and-rescue missions.
