Dr. Lenos Hadjidemetriou is currently a Research Lecturer at the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, University of Cyprus, Cyprus. He received the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2010 from the National Technical University of Athens, Athens, Greece, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2016 from the University of Cyprus.
His research interests include grid integration of renewable energy systems, energy storage systems, control of power electronics, digital twins and real-time hardware in the loop applications, ancillary services, smart grids and microgrids, and cyber-security aspects in smart grids.
Dr. Hadjidemetriou has published more than 115 papers in scientific journals and international conference proceedings. He has a major contribution to attract 23 competitive research projects with a total funding of 7.5 million € for his organization. He is currently working towards the successful completion of several European (ePowerMove, TwinEU, CableGnosis, HYNET, OMRES, Transit) and National (GridEye, OptimRES, GridGnosis, ANTS, INVERGE) funded projects. He is also working on industry funded projects with key energy stakeholders (e.g., Electricity Authority of Cyprus, Cyprus Transmission System Operator, Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority, Cyprus Energy Agency).
He has developed 1 educational laboratory (electric machines laboratory) and 2 advanced research laboratories (modern power systems testbed, power electronics for renewable energy sources laboratory) in the University of Cyprus premises that are used for educational, research and innovation purposes. Furthermore, he has led the development of various pilot demonstration with energy storage systems (flywheels, batteries) in renewable energy plants and smart buildings capable to provide flexible energy management functionalities and novel ancillary services to modern power grids. .
