CovTracer-EN: The official contact tracing mobile app of the Republic of Cyprus

covtracer

The CovTracer – Exposure Notification (CovTracer-EN) project aims at developing the contact tracing mobile app for Cyprus, thus supporting the efforts of the Epidemiological Surveillance and Control Unit of the Cyprus Ministry of Health to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the Cypriot community.

The CovTracer-EN project is part of a wider European effort, which aims at the development of privacy-preserving contact tracing apps in EU Member States that can “talk” with each other through the European Federation Gateway Service (EFGS). This will allow users to be warned if they were in contact with someone who has indicated that she/he has tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing and warning apps are based on Bluetooth proximity technology. They are only used voluntarily, respect users’ privacy and do not track people’s locations.

The project’s partnership consists of the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus, the CYENS Center of Excellence, the Cyprus Ministry of Health, the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, and the National eHealth Authority.
