Dr. Ioannis Krikidis, Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Cyprus and Faculty Member of the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (CoE), has been honored as a 2017 Thompson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher (HCR).
Thompson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers is an annual list recognizing leading researchers in the sciences and social sciences from around the world. The purpose of the Thomson Reuters HCR List is to identify contemporary authors whose research has significantly influenced others in their field. The list names nearly 3,400 scientists from around the world whose studies were among the top 1% most referenced in academic journals from 2005 to 2015. Prof. Ioannis Krikidis has authored/co-authors 15 highly-cited journal papers in the area of Wireless Communications. He is the only Cyprus-based academic to be included in the list.
The White Paper prepared by ClarivateAnalytics when presenting the results noted that highly cited researchers “have distinguished themselves by publishing a high number of papers that rank in the top 1% most-cited in their respective fields over a recent 11-year period. Such consistent production of highly cited reports indicates that the work of these researchers has been repeatedly judged by their peers to be of notable significance and utility.”
Dr. Krikidis inclusion in the Thompson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers List of 2017 is evidence of scientific excellence and of the high-impact research currently being undertaken at the KIOS Center of Excellence. Such scientific excellence is expected to also have a positive impact on the Center’s researchers, thus enhancing and promoting further research, innovation activities, and entrepreneurship in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
Ioannis Krikidis received the Diploma in Computer Engineering from the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department (CEID) of the University of Patras, Greece, in 2000, and the M.Sc and Ph.D degrees from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (ENST), Paris, France, in 2001 and 2005, respectively, all in electrical engineering. From 2006 to 2007 he worked, as a Post-Doctoral researcher, with ENST, Paris, France, and from 2007 to 2010 he was a Research Fellow in the School of Engineering and Electronics at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK. He has held also research positions at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Notre Dame; the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Maryland; the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust, University of Luxembourg; and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Niigata University, Japan. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus. His current research interests include communication theory, wireless communications, cooperative networks, cognitive radio, and wireless-powered communications.
Dr. Krikidis serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications, the Transactions on Green Communications and Networking, and the IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. He was the Technical Program Co-Chair for the IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology 2013 as well as the Lead Guest Editor of the Special Issue on Exploiting interference towards Energy Efficient and Secure Wireless Communications, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing, December 2016. He was the recipient of the Cyprus Researcher Award-Young Researcher from the Research Promotion Foundation, Cyprus, in 2013, as well as the recipient of the IEEE ComSoc Best Young Professional Award in Academia in 2016.
