The workshop “Challenges in Water Resource Management: Addressing Water Scarcity and Fair Pricing” was successfully held on September 16, 2025, at the University of Cyprus.
The event was organized in the context of the research project “Water-Futures”, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), in collaboration with the KIOS Center of Excellence for Research and Innovation at the University of Cyprus, the Athens University of Economics and Business, and the Limassol District Local Government Organization. Participants included representatives of organizations, public authorities, and other stakeholders with a strong interest in water management.
The aim of the workshop was to highlight the key challenges in managing water resources during periods of scarcity and to explore fair approaches to water pricing and their potential impacts. Participants also engaged in interactive activities that bridged scientific knowledge with the practical experience of stakeholders.
The workshop emphasized the need for interdisciplinary approaches in water resource management, the importance of incorporating the social dimension into decision-making, and the value of active participation by stakeholders and citizens. These insights will feed into the ongoing research and innovation activities of the Water-Futures project, contributing to the development of tools for sustainable and equitable water management.
