The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus announces two (2) full time Special Scientist for Research (Research Engineer) positions, in Computer Vision. The successful candidates will join multidisciplinary teams and contribute to cutting-edge research and innovation projects, such as EvoRoads (safer and more resilient road systems through intelligent sensing) and AutoTRUST (AI solutions for safe and trustworthy autonomous mobility).

The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence is the largest research center of its kind in Cyprus and one of Europe’s leading Center of Excellence that combines world-class academic research with real-world application through its innovation-driven environment. Currently, the Center employs more than 200 people who are supported by externally funded research and innovation projects and has strong international collaborations, translating advanced research into impactful solutions. Job Details

The successful candidates are expected to:
• Conduct research in computer vision and deep learning, including literature review, hypothesis formulation, and experimental design.
• Design, implement, and train machine learning models for tasks such as object detection, recognition, and image segmentation.
• Develop scalable training pipelines and optimize models for real-time or resource-constrained environments.
• Perform experimental evaluation, benchmarking, and ablation studies to analyze model performance.
• Perform installations, set-up and deployment of hardware and software.
• Collaborate with other teams to deliver real deployments in pilot sites and proof of concept production systems.
• Review and maintain existing modules, tools and systems.
• Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to communicate results internally and externally.
• Prepare manuals and guidelines.
• Contribute to scientific publications, conferences, and open-source projects related to computer vision and AI.
• Participate in project meetings and dissemination events.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field from an accredited institution with coursework or research experience in computer vision or machine learning.
• Experience optimizing models for real-time inference on edge and embedded platforms using techniques such as quantization, pruning, and GPU acceleration.
• Experience developing and training deep learning models using PyTorch, OpenCV, and related CV frameworks.

Employment Terms:
The positions are on a contract basis. Initially, a one-year contract will be offered, with a 6-month probation period, which is renewable based on performance. The gross monthly salary depends on the candidate’s qualifications and experience and will be between €1900 – €2700. From this amount, employee contributions to the Cyprus government funds will be deducted. A 13th salary bonus is incorporated in the monthly salary. Maternity leave will be granted based on Maternity Protection Law 1997(Ν.100(Ι)/1997), and the existing amendment laws.

The applications should be submitted as soon as possible, but not later than Friday, 24th of April 2026, at 5 pm. The evaluation of the applications will begin immediately. At least the best three candidates that satisfy the required qualifications will be interviewed by a 3-member Selection Committee. Candidates will be informed of the result of their application by the KIOS CoE.
Applicants need not be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Applicants should however ensure, before applying, that in case they are selected they will be residing in Cyprus on a full-time basis during the employment period and submission of application implies acceptance of this condition. The employment of persons who have reached the age of 65 years old, at the commencement date of employment, is prohibited.
