The KIOS Research Center has honored the 60th birthday of Professor Petros Ioannou by co-organizing on the 24th June 2013 the workshop “Control and Adaptation: A 30-Year Journey”. The idea behind the adaptive control is to provide a control method able to adapt to a controlled system with parameters which vary, or are initially uncertain.   The adaptive control field has grown to be one of the most well-established in terms of algorithms, design techniques and analytical tools.

Nine leading experts and specialists travelled to Cyprus from the USA, Brazil, UK, Greece, and Turkey to present aspects of their research in adaptive control. The workshop further included presentations from four Professors from the University of Cyprus that also work in this area of research.

This workshop was organized to honor a pioneer researcher, Prof. Petros Ioannou who is an important figurehead in the field. Professor Ioannou’s important research contributions have generated major theoretical and technological advances in the field of adaptive control. His work for 30 years in the field of adaptive control has been pioneering and has inspired generations of researchers who followed in his paths.
