The University of Cyprus Research and Innovation Support Service in collaboration with the KIOS CoE successfully hosted the EU-13 Roadshow: Empowering Innovation – The Strategic Value of Intellectual Assets on April 3, 2025, in partnership with the European IP Helpdesk of the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA). This information day was part of the ongoing EU-13 Roadshow – an initiative aimed at enhancing the dissemination of IP-related knowledge and providing innovation support to SMEs, researchers, and EU beneficiaries from EU-13 and Widening countries.
Held at the Council-Senate Building “Anastasios G. Leventis”, the event included an expert presentation featuring real world case studies followed by two panel discussion sessions focused on leveraging intellectual assets as drivers of innovation and growth.
In her welcome address, the Vice Rector of Academic Affairs of the University of Cyprus and chair of the Innovation Management Committee, Professor Tatiana-Eleni Synodinou highlighted the strategic importance the University of Cyprus places on the protection, transfer and valorisation of the knowledge produced from its research activities and the key role the University plays nationally in the wider development of this sector.
The first panel session featured a lively discussion among distinguished experts: Professor Philippos Patsalis (Director of MediGenetics and Founder & CEO of NIPD Genetics), George Tziazas (Founder and Co-CEO of Ascanio), and Dr. Anastasia Constantinou, RTTP (Head of the Innovation Management Sector at the Research & Innovation Support Service, University of Cyprus). They shared diverse perspectives, expertise and insights into intellectual property valorization within the Cypriot innovation ecosystem.
The second panel discussion highlighted the services provided by European Innovation Service providers, including the European Patent Office, the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the Horizon Results Platform, Booster and the Impact Licensing Initiative.
A highlight of the event was the Innovation Support Services Exhibition, which provided a platform for National Innovation support services actors to showcase their offerings and connect directly with researchers, entrepreneurs and industry professionals.
The Roadshow marked a significant step towards strengthening the capacity of innovation ecosystems in the EU-13 countries to identify, manage, and valorise intellectual assets. The event underscored the University of Cyprus’s commitment to advancing responsible knowledge transfer and strategic innovation.
