Dynamic presence of the KIOS CoE at the 4th Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum 2019.

The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (KIOS CoE) had a dynamic presence at the 4th Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum 2019, organized by the Center for Entrepreneurship (C4E) of the University of Cyprus with the support of PwC Cyprus.

Specifically, the KIOS CoE participated in the research results exhibition, namely “The Innovation Track” with 4 research projects under the categories of information technology, communications and devices, smart infrastructures and health sciences. During the exhibition, research results and ideas with a strong market potential or societal impact were presented by KIOS researchers in the form of a poster. During this session, the KIOS researchers had the opportunity to network with business people, industry, entrepreneurs, faculty, etc, presenting and explaining their ideas to the forum’s attendees. The KIOS projects that were presented in the exhibition were the “CUREX: Secure and Private Health Data Exchange”, the “Domognostics: Intelligent Building Automation Diagnostics”, the “Integration of Renewable Energy Sources within Smart Distribution Grids” and the “Artificially Intelligent Autonomous Drones to Support Security Service Providers”.

The project “CUREX: Secure and Private Health Data Exchange” addresses comprehensively the protection of the confidentiality and integrity of health data; the “Domognostics” project aims at reducing energy losses in buildings using intelligent building automation diagnostics; the “Integration of Renewable Energy Sources within Smart Distribution Grids” presents a complete solution of a multi-functional grid tied inverter for advancing the integration of renewable energy sources within smart distribution grids. Finally, the “Artificially Intelligent Autonomous Drones to Support Security Service Providers” aims at automating the complete cycle of patrolling, sensing, detecting and tracking intruders via UAVs and allows non-technical staff to viably operate UAVs in practice.

Best poster award

Awards were given to projects for the best posters presented in “The Innovation Track”. The project “CUREX: Secure and Private Health Data Exchange” was awarded the 2nd prize for its poster! The “CUREX” project will be a part of a video entitled “Shaping the future: Featuring selected University of Cyprus Innovations”, that aims to promote selected University of Cyprus innovations and the University’s efforts towards bringing its inventions to the market and to society.

 

 

 

The UCY Entrepreneur AwardDr. Demetris Eliades, currently a Research Assistant Professor at the KIOS CoE and cofounder of PHOEBE Research and Innovation Ltd, was awarded the “UCY Entrepreneur Award” for his entrepreneurship activities. Demetris presented his entrepreneurial journey and his vision to make research results accessible to industrial operators. Finally, he expressed his hope that, with the new spin-off legislation, more researchers will begin to explore the entrepreneurship avenue
