Israeli Ambassador in Cyprus visited the KIOS CoE

The Ambassador of the State of Israel in Cyprus, H.E. Oren Anolik, along with the Head of Trade and Economic Affairs, Mr. Demetris Fessas, visited the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (KIOS CoE) at the University of Cyprus, on the 16th of May 2022.

The KIOS CoE Acting Director, Prof. Christos Panayiotou, briefly presented the research and innovation activities undertaken at the Center, that support the green and digital evolution of critical infrastructure systems. Emphasis was also given to the outcomes of collaborations between the KIOS Innovation Hub and the industry, as well as KIOS’ contribution in supporting national stakeholders in the fight against Covid-19, by developing technological solutions. Finally, reference was made on the Center’s projects and collaborations with research centers and SMEs in Israel.

Following the meeting, the two guests visited the KIOS’ Laboratory and talked with young researchers about how their work helps to facilitate the widespread use of renewables in power grids and smart buildings, reduce the environmental impacts of traffic congestion, minimize water losses, and manage emergency situations efficiently and effectively.

The Israeli Ambassador congratulated the KIOS research team for their research work and said: “This visit at the KIOS Center of Excellence was an excellent opportunity for me to be informed of the Center’s research and innovation activities and to discuss new ideas for collaboration between Israel and Cyprus, in areas of common interest”.
