KIOS wins the YERUN Open Science Award 2022

The KIOS Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus has won the YERUN (Young European Research Universities Network) Open Science Award 2022, for its Open Knowledge Initiative.

The KIOS Open Knowledge Initiative was launched in 2017 with the aim to support and encourage open access, open data, and reproducible research, for the purpose of enhancing scientific excellence. It is comprised of the following activities: i) the KIOS Open Knowledge Portal, which is hosted on Zenodo, for publications, datasets, and software toolkits, ii) the Dataset and Software Repository on GitHub for benchmark datasets and software code, iii) the Reproducible Research Platform on Code Ocean for software capsules, i.e., code/data accompanying scientific publications, and iv)  the KIOS CoE mobile app, which is available on Google and Apple app stores for non-expert users to crowdsource smartphone data and share them with their consent for research purposes, as a way to engage them in Citizen Science.

YERUN, has set Open Science as a priority, since its establishment in 2016 and the scope of this Award is to encourage and reward Open Science initiatives, of different kinds, across YERUN.

YERUN received 37 applications, which were reviewed by an Evaluation Committee and five practices were awarded. The Awards ceremony was held online on Tuesday, 14 February 2023.
