The KIOS CoE participated in a special celebration at Buckingham Palace in honor of Cyprus.

On the 4th March 2019, the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (KIOS CoE) at the University of Cyprus participated in a special event organized by Buckingham Palace and hosted by HRH the Prince of Wales. The event was focused on the close ties between Cyprus and the UK and the UK Cypriots’ contribution to British public life.

In addition to the special ceremony at Buckingham Palace, the event included an exhibition to promote Cyprus and its relationship with the UK. The KIOS CoE was selected to highlight the scientific and research partnership between the University of Cyprus and Imperial College London through the creation of the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence.

During the exhibition, the Director of the KIOS CoE, Professor Marios Polycarpou presented the KIOS Center of Excellence to HRH Prince Charles and the President of Cyprus Mr. Nicos Anastasiades. The vision of the KIOS Center of Excellence, he stated, is to develop excellent interdisciplinary research on a global scale, as well as to produce new knowledge and important tools that can be applied to solve real-life problems in these applications.

Professor Polycarpou placed emphasis on the opportunities arising from this collaboration between the University of Cyprus and Imperial College London, pointing out that researchers in Cyprus and the UK have the opportunity to share expertise and good practices, produce joint publications and participate in collaborative research projects.

In addition, the Director of the KIOS CoE, highlighted the increased employment opportunities arising from this collaboration. The Center has already employed more than 100 researchers, whilst the vision is to grow to 150-200 researchers by 2022.

For the purpose of this event KIOS CoE presented a short video entitled “Strategic Partnership in Research and Innovation between Cyprus and UK”.
