The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence organized the 1st KIOS Center of Excellence Annual Training School on 27th and 28th of September 2017. The aim of the KIOS CoE Annual Training School is to bring together academics, researchers, and professional experts to explore research challenges and opportunities in the emerging area of monitoring, control, and security of Critical Infrastructure Systems (CISs).
The program for the 1st Training School included presentations from experts from the University of Cyprus and Imperial College London as Prof. Marios Polycarpou, Prof. Thomas Parisini, Prof. Christopher Hankin and Mrs. Natasha G. Bennett talked on various topics of interest to researchers in Cyprus, including important perspectives on cybersecurity and expert guidance on matters related to paper publications and intellectual property.
In addition, the KIOS Innovation Hub industrial collaborators presented some key priorities and challenges relevant to operators of Critical Infrastructure Systems. The presentations of Dr. Neophytos Papadopoulos (Director at Office of the Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation), Mr. Ioannis Papageorgiou (Electricity Authority of Cyprus), Dr. Charalampos Sergiou (Head of Electronic Security Department Cyprus National Security Authority) and Mr. Nikos Ioannou (Ministry of Energy, Commerce Industry and Tourism) provided an important industrial perspective to help researchers become more aware of real-life applications and research directions. Specialized guidance was also provided to researchers on matters related to enterprise development, in order to help the researchers understand important aspects of commercialization for their research outcomes.
